MICHAEL JOSEPH HENRY

July 20, 1951  -  May 8, 2008

Michael Joseph was the youngest of Lillian & Desmond’s nine children.  Mike was nine when his father died and Lillian was left a single mother with only Michael and his two older brothers, John 14 and Desmond 16 still at home.  In a few years John and Desmond were in the service and Mike was an “only child” as he went through his teens.  His years at Alemany High School were also the tumultuous years of the sixties and he was an enthusiastic participant.   He loved to swim and was an avid water polo.    He spent many hours in the family pool cavorting with his growing number of nieces and nephews.

In the last 4-1/2 years of his life, Mike led a very stable, sober and changed life.  He worked for a small computer supply company and a few months before his death he married Titan, whom we all met for the first time at Mike’s memorial.  Mike died of natural causes while enjoying his regular evening swim in the pool where he lived.

About thirty family members and a dozen friends and co-workers gathered on May 17th to say goodbye to Mike.  There were tributes from his friends recalling his humor, his generosity of spirit, his intelligence and how much they valued his friendship.   It was a simple ceremony, but we all felt thankful that Mike spent his last years surrounded by good and caring people.
